iClient & Connected Suite

iClient & Connected Suite

Enabling mobile and remote working without the need for constant network connectivity.

Kirona's software is primarily web-based with applications run through browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Google Chrome. This approach helps us ensure that users can access the Field Force Automation applications from any relevant location; the office, at home, or in the field.

This method does, however, present some challenges as the applications need to have network signal (usually via a LAN, Wi-Fi, Phone Network) to exchange data with other software systems. For example, a mobile worker needs connectivity to receive work on their mobile device.

In order to overcome these issues Kirona has incorporated innovative technologies into its architecture, primarily iClient and the Connected Suite. The Connected Suite operates when a constant network signal is available such as in an office environment. iClient in contrast enables offline / disconnected working.

When iClient is deployed for business processes and in connected mode (i.e. in a data signal area) “bundles” of work are discreetly downloaded to the device meaning that if it goes out of signal the user can carry out the business process without the need for a continuous connection. If work is allocated to a user / device when the device is out of range, then the data is queued until the device is next in signal area. Equally if a process is completed on the mobile device when out of signal, iClient will queue the work ready for transmission once the device comes back into signal.

Once a process is complete, iClient will attempt to upload the resulting data in the background – leaving the user free to continue working on other business processes. The data will be validated, and any errors in either validation or the back-office business process are returned to the iClient synchronisation manager. This allows the user to remedy any faults in their data whilst they are still in the field.

Innovative use of Java and OSGi technology mean that Kirona’s familiar browser-based user interface can continue to be used in an offline context, so there is no need to learn a new type of user interface and in many instances of iClient deployment, the transition between real-time to off-line is so seamless that users are unaware if they are working in a connected or disconnected state.

iClients incorporation of robust features, such as over-the-air software installations and upgrades, as well as industry standard data encryption standards such as SSL certificates over HTTPS, ensures iClient meets the rigorous  IT standards of our clients.
