Best Practice

Devices
A key aspect of our approach is to review the worker context and business process we are taking Motile. In doing so we can then propose the most appropriate handheld device options. Our clients use the intelligent mobile applications on a wide range of handheld devices including mobile phone, PDA, Blackberry, Tablet PC, Laptop and PCs. Network
Many clients will already have in place for other services a mobile access strategy for at least one of PDA’s, Blackberries, Tablet PC’s or Laptops. In any of these situations the Intelligent Mobile system can utilize that configuration. The sections below outline the options so that IT and Network colleagues can consider if they wish take the opportunity to alter/improve their existing strategy. The applications use a true wireless model. They integrate directly into back office databases in the same way as the office based system does. In order to connect securely to the office network the mobile GPRS or 3G network is used to connect the remote device to the office database. This is typically via a data card in a tablet PC / laptop or by built in antennae on PDA/Blackberry devices. Request a download of our connectivity & network paper for more information....

Security
This needs to be considered from a number of perspectives, namely:

• Device security in the event of theft or attempted unauthorised use
• Application logon security
• Network security in terms data interception

The first thing to consider is the true wireless nature of the applications. No client application is installed on the device and no data need be recorded on the device. The applications work by using the device’s standard browser to access data stored in the back office database. The only circumstance where data is stored on the device is when a user chooses to invoke the download facility to store offline data as a backup in case of network black spot issues.

We have extensive experience of:

• GPRS & 3G Fixed link / bearer service private APN
• VPN setup and configuration e.g. Cisco, Checkpoint etc
• Firewalls
• Device security and backup & recovery
• SSL
• Certificates
• Encryption
